    Territory Manager Survives Cancer

Jimmy Girvan was first hired on to the Metro Fire team back in July 2001. Having known Craig Russell through his business interactions with Round Rock, Jimmy was given a sales position in the undeveloped central Texas territory. For nine years, he worked to build up the customer base in this area and establish the Metro Fire name in the Austin area.

In January 2009, Jimmy was diagnosed with Stage 4 testicular cancer. He endured four different surgeries within a span of a year and completed nine months of chemotherapy at M.D. Anderson. Despite these treatments, Jimmy also had to undergo a stem cell transplant and high-dose chemotherapy treatment in October 2009. That same month, however, he received a good bill of health with news of the compete remission of his cancer.

“Craig has been outstanding. The support of Metro Fire and our vendors has been endless,” Girvan said citing the many cards, movies, books, and calls of encouragement.

“They wanted me to concentrate on me getting well, and now I am absolutely thrilled to be calling customers again, seeing old friends, and getting back on the road.”

Jimmy Girvan is the portrait of strength, as he has worked through nine months of physical therapy since January to get back to work at Metro Fire. Allen Walters helped cover his territory for the duration of Jimmy’s absence for which the company was very grateful. Jimmy officially began work again this week and is excited to be active again in the Austin area.

“I truly could not have done this without my wife, Kim,” Girvan confessed. “She’s my angel.”
